ABOUT SANTA FE RIVER

Santa Fe River Park in Gilchrist County is your hub for AOA FUN on the Santa Fe River. The scenic Santa Fe River offers 2 popular paddles that enables you to see 8 springs in 8 miles or 5 springs in 5 miles. We also offer a beautiful tube trip that is a gentle 2.5 hour float down river. Whichever adventure you choose, just park at our outpost (Santa Fe River Park) and we shuttle you to either Poe Springs or Rum Island for a paddling adventure. Paddle with the current and explore the springs along the way arriving back at Santa Fe River Park also known as “47 Bridge” which is a wonderful landmark for knowing you have reached the end.

Or for tubing, just hop in the water with your tube. Enjoy a leisurely float down the tranquil Santa Fe, finally ending at Turner Park. We will pick you up and bring you back to Santa Fe River Park.

8 Springs in 8 Miles (Poe Springs Trip) - Duration 4 to 6 hours

•  First meet us at Santa Fe River Park.

•  We then Shuttle you up to Poe Springs to begin your adventure.

•  Once you have been dropped off at Poe Springs, a short paddle up river will take you to the spring head at Poe. You can choose to spend some time at this spring or continue your journey by heading back down river.

•  From there, head down river to Lilly Springs. Look for the wooden sign that reads “Lily”. It is a left exit into its spring run that is shaped like a “J”  and just a short paddle in to the head spring.

•  When you are done at Lilly, traverse the run back out to the Santa Fe and continue down river.

•  As you are approaching Rum Island, nestled back on the right side of the river is Mermaid Springs. Just the size of a large hot tub, this spring makes for a great opportunity to dip in the cool 72 degree water.

•  Next you can go either right or left around Rum Island which was believed to be a bootlegger hide out, during prohibition. If you take the right side around the island, you will arrive at the beautiful, little Columbia County’s Rum Island Springs Park, located off of County Rd 138. There are restrooms there and Rum Island Spring, right on the river to explore.

•  Once you have finished at Rum Island, head down river again for approximately ¼ mile and on the left you will find the spring run at Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park. It is another ¼ mile paddle up the spring run to the most glorious, clear, blue spring that everyone needs to see at least once.

•  Once you reach the spring, You can park your vessels along the bank and enter the park. The Park does have a $2 per person charge if you want to stay and picnic. Snacks and Cold drinks are available at the concessions building along with snorkels and souvenirs. The park also has restrooms of course.

•  After you have visited Gilchrist Blue Springs, cruise down the river again toward Ginnie Springs where you will see the last 3 springs Devils Ear, Ginnie, and Dogwood Springs.

•  Ginnie Springs is private and you can get out of your vessel, but there is a $15 per person fee. From here you paddle down river again to Santa Fe River Park where your car is waiting. As you round the last bend on this awesome adventure you will see the iconic “47 Bridge”. This is your signal to make your way to the left side of the river to the ramp by the floating dock.

5 springs in 5 miles (Rum Island Trip) - Duration 3 to 5 hours

 •  First meet us at Santa Fe River Park.

•  We then Shuttle you up to Rum Island Park to begin your adventure.

•  Rum Island, which was believed to be a bootlegger hide out, during prohibition is a beautiful, newly renovated Columbia County Park, located off of County Rd 138. There are restrooms there and Rum Island Spring, right on the river to explore.

•  Once you have finished at Rum Island, head down river for approximately ¼ mile and on the left you will find the spring run at Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park. It is another ¼ mile paddle up the spring run to the most glorious, clear, blue spring that everyone needs to see at least once.

•  After you reach the spring, You can park your vessels along the bank and enter the park. The Park does have a $2 per person charge if you want to stay and picnic. Snacks and Cold drinks are available at the concessions building along with snorkels and souvenirs. The park also has restrooms of course.

•  Ginnie Springs is private and you can get out there, but there is a $15 per person fee. From here you paddle down river again to Santa Fe River Park where your car is waiting. As you round the last bend on this awesome adventure you will see the iconic “47 Bridge” . This is your signal to make your way to the left side of the river to the ramp by the floating dock.

The trips are the same price because the only time limit you have is all equipment must be returned to Santa Fe River Park by 6pm.

  •  Single Kayaks - $35    Tandem Kayaks/Canoes - $50

  •  Your Kayak or Canoe - $20

With both of our paddling adventures you have until 6pm to return to Santa Fe River Park. Our first trips leave at 930am and last departure to Poe Springs is 1230pm. Our last departure for Rum Island is 2:30pm.

If you leave at 9:30am you have until 6pm and if you leave at 2:30pm you have until 6pm. Although we have quite a few paddling vessels and pre booking is not required, if you want a guaranteed paddling trip it is worth booking ahead of time online.

Bring your own kayak or canoe and we provide the ride! Typically $20 per boat. These can be booked online too.

Tranquility on the Santa Fe (Tube Trip) - Duration 2.5 to 3 hours

For those who want something a little slower try our 2.5 to 3 hour float down river.

•     Our tubing adventure starts at Santa Fe River Park

•     Rent your tube and hop in the river.

•     Head down stream for a leisurely float (approx. 2.5 hours)

•     Ending at Turner boat ramp (you will see the AOA buoy)

•     There we will pick you and your crew up.

•     A short 20 minute ride back to the park and you can jump in your car and head home or back to camp.

We can support large groups up to 200 tubers. Pre-booking is required for larger groups. Of course all walk ups are subject to availability of tubes at the time.

AOA is a pet friendly company, so pets are allowed on your rented vessel.

AOA is also “cooler” friendly, but not all parks are. Paddle responsibly, please don’t litter, and remember to follow park rules.

Whether you’re a first-time adventurer or seasoned explorer, the springs on both paddling adventures will mesmerize, delight, and astound you. The tranquility of the river tube float will make you feel completely at peace, just don’t fall asleep.
